Today has yet again strengthened my belief that there are a lot of stupid people (I'm probably one of those people). Ok. The past 2 days have been spent talking to the people who use one of the programs I work on. Today we were going over one part and our people and their people spent an hour arguing over one part of it. I got annoyed and drew how I thought it should work (surprisingly I had managed to figure out a way to combine both in a way that should work). So after drawing it out on my notepad, I got up and drew it on the whiteboard. (Heard one of my guys go "What the hell is he doing?" because I hadn't said anything.) As soon as it was drawn I used my shut up and listen to me voice. (I was annoyed at the time since I don't use that often). It was interesting because everyone stopped talking. (By the way I was the lowest ranking person in the room) So I explained my idea quickly and everyone, both sides, was like "Hey. That's what we want!" So then we break for lunch. I don't know what happened over lunch, but apparently IQ's dropped. One of there guys was like "That's what we want, but we should do it this way." And his solution was the way we were trying to get away from. Oh. The reason we were trying to get away from it was because it was going about things in a way that could be done much better. But no, he had regressed back to wanting to do it the old way with just a new front end. THE FUCK?!?! How the hell does changing the way it looks make it better. You're still going about it in a way that is too much work. So it got argued about for another hour. I'm pretty sure the reason their guy thought doing it the existing way was the better idea was because he went to lunch with our functional. Our functional is a complete idiot. ( I'll give you one guess as to who it was. I'm sure you'll get it.) So I've come to the conclusion that when faced with a new idea that they don't understand, stupid people will revert to old methods regardless of how bad they are. What was fun was at the end of the day, we're getting ready to leave and our program manager asked if we'd got everything from the section being argued about. And my response "I gave Sgt L. (name shortened for privacy reasons) MY version of it." He goes "You mean the RIGHT one." YES!!
